What “wake-like” actually means

Beta- and gamma-range chatter during REM is not proof you are conscious in the daylight sense. It means local circuits are metabolically hot: binding fragments, testing emotional predictions, discarding weak synapses. The dream you remember is a compressed side-effect of that pass — not a moral parable downloaded from a dictionary.
