PGO waves & autonomic chaos
Pontine spikes slam through geniculate relays into occipital cortex. Eyes jitter under the lids; a private cinema boots up. Meanwhile heart and breath abandon steady rhythm, and the body’s thermostat steps aside.
PGO is the projector, not the plot
Those electrical bursts help generate the visual field of the dream. They do not assign meaning to snakes, water, or teeth. Meaning — for Oneirox — is which larger process rode along: threat simulation, consolidation, interoceptive alarm. The projector is hardware; Decode scores the job the night was running.
Why pulse and breath feel “wrong”
Phasic REM is sympathetic-noisy. People wake with a racing chest or a catch in the throat and invent a story to explain it. Often the story is after-the-fact narration around an autonomic spike. Writing the body first (pulse, sweat, cold, breath hitch) keeps Decode honest.
Thermoregulation offline
In REM the organism is worse at defending core temperature. Waking clammy, overheated, or oddly chilled is compatible with a long late-night REM pass — another somatic clue, not a symbolic “temperature meaning.”

Pontine-geniculo-occipital bursts help paint the visual field. They do not caption snakes. Autonomic noise in phasic REM — heart-race, breath hitch, sweat — often arrives before a story. Pontine-geniculo-occipital bursts are a timing signature of phasic REM, not a personality. Heart-rate jitter and skin-temperature dump ride the same windows. Practical capture rule
Before you polish the plot: eye-flutter memory? irregular breath on wake? heat dump or chill? Those three map to PGO/autonomic load better than any dream-dictionary gloss.
